| Özet |
| Triage means determining the urgency of patients, who are admitted to the hospital and giving the priority of intervention to those that are at great risk of life. Moreover, obstetric triage is the attempt made by the health personnel to evaluate and classify the patients according to their urgency within 10 minutes of admittance to the emergency services for obstetric reasons. Since unpredicted obstetric complications may occur in the significant part of pregnancies, it is very important to identify these problems as early as possible and to perform the most appropriate intervention as soon as possible in order to protect the health of mother and newborn, to prevent maternal mortality and morbidity. Deciding to do the most appropriate intervention in a fastest way during an emergency situation and performing the intervention in a quickest way are the main tasks of the obstetric triage staff. Before 1986, obstetric triage has not been well defined. Starting from 1986, obstetric triage has begun to become a specialized department for both outpatient and inpatient care. It also has a highly functional and preferred position within the general prenatal services as it provides access to multiple clinical services. Understanding the role of contemporary obstetric triage in the area of current health care and organizing obstetric emergency care services in accordance with current developments and standards are important both for the providers of this services and for those in the race for the leadership in health care servicing. This review article was prepared to inform the health professionals on obstetric triage. |
