| Özet |
| Nanoscience/Nanotechnology (NST) is an emerging field of studies-attracting significant investments. The rapid developments and investments in NST have led to a need for raising future citizens with knowledge in the field. As today’s students are tomorrow’s potential NST workers and consumers, their education is critical for the future of NST. This study discusses data from the preliminary implementation of an educational program developed to improve high school students’ awareness of and academic knowledge regarding basic NST concepts. High school sophomore students participated in a three-day educational program consisting of a theoretical and practical part. The effectiveness of the program was tested with the help of pre and posttests. Our findings show that, prior to the education program, participants had very limited academic knowledge and awareness of basic NST concepts. Following the educational program, a significant improvement was observed in both students' academic knowledge and awareness regarding basic NST concepts. The study also elicited participants’ views about the implementation of the program. To this end, an educational program evaluation form and the closed-ended interview technique were used. The strengths and weaknesses of that program were identified and recommendations were made for the upcoming educational program. |
