Özet
Black mulberry has long been cultivated for its edible fruit and is planted across temperate and mild zones of Turkey. Other mulberry species are sometimes confused with black mulberry, particularly black-fruited individuals of the white mulberry, but black mulberry can be distinguished by the uniformly hairy lower leaf surface. Delicious, fleshy, succulent mulberries are less in calories. They compose of health promoting phyto-nutrient compounds like polyphenol pigment antioxidants, minerals, resveratrol and vitamins that are essential for optimum health. Black mulberry can be propagated through seeds, cuttings, grafting or rarely by tissue culture. Since cross pollination is rule in black mulberry, propagation by seed does not conserve true-to-typeness owing to its heterozygous nature. So, alternative vegetative propagation methods are argued even though black mulberry trees are generally difficult to propagate via vegetative propagation methods due to low rooting performance in cuttings and incompability or poor success in grafting and budding methods. In our research, two new sustainable vegetative propagation methods, stoolbed layering and banking up methods, which are commonly used for apple and cherry rootstocks, were adapted to black mulberry and were evaluated their applicability in order to obtain black mulberry sapling continuously. From experimental maintained by randomized block design in 2013 spring, first rooted saplings were obtained in 2015 autumn. In the experiment, number of rooted sapling per unit area, sapling length, sapling diameter, lateral root length and root number of sapling, root length, root diameter were …
