Özet
Due to the bioactive compound contents and revealing considerable biological activity, Origanum species have been utilized for medicinal purposes. Origanum genus belongs to Lamiaceae and includes 23 species and 6 hybrids in Turkey flora. In addition to its culinary uses, Origanum has also been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties, and has been used to treat a variety of conditions, including respiratory infections, digestive problems, and menstrual cramps. O. species are cultivated for their essential oils. Since this genus consists of high concentration of essential oils. The essential oils of this genus comprise the thymol and carvacrol as major products. In this study, Origanum saccatum was dried and extracted with hexane, ethyl acetate and water successively and water extract was used for quantitative analysis of bioactive compounds. Quantification of natural compounds was accomplished by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Neohesperidin was detected to be chief compound with the value of 2.73 (mg/g extract). Resveratro (0.12), rutin (0.67), catechin (0.64), gallic acid (1.07), quercetin (0.77), t-cinnamic acid (0.72), o-coumaric acid (0.11) were determined in O. saccatum water extract.
