Özet
Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the frequency of disordered eating attitudes in a sample of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) patients. Method: The sample was comprised of 55 outpatients (mean age: 32.76±11.74), who met DSM-IV criteria for OCD and 55 healthy controls (mean age: 28.66±5.87) (t=2.322, p>0.05). The Turkish version of the Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Questionnaire (MOCQ), Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were applied to all participants. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated as kilograms per meter squared. Results: OCD patients had significantly higher EAT scores (t=4.552) and BMIs (t=5.340). Thirty-four percent of the OCD patients had an EAT score of 30 or higher, which is suggestive of a disordered eating attitude, whereas this rate was only 3.6% in healthy controls. OCD patients had significantly higher levels of depression, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive symptoms, compared to controls. In the OCD patient group, both BDI (r=0.334) and BAI (r=0.501) were positively and significantly correlated with MOCQ total score. Conclusion: The results of the present study supported the connection between obsessive compulsive symptoms and eating attitudes in the group of OCD patients. © Archives of Neuropsychiatry, Published by Galenos Publishing.
