| Özet |
| This article aims to analyze the differences and similarities between Turkey and the European Union (EU) regarding sustainable cities from the perspective of sustainable development. The study compares the practices of both regions by addressing economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The literature review and case studies on sustainable cities in Turkey and the EU focus on the components of sustainable development. The research reveals how Turkey and the EU differ in terms of sustainable cities and in which areas they share similarities. The economic analysis considers factors such as energy use, transportation, and waste management; the social analysis evaluates factors such as community participation, quality of life, and education. The environmental analysis focuses on issues such as water management, air quality, and biodiversity. In this study, the comparison between the EU and Turkey within the framework of sustainable cities is conducted. Indicators under the main heading of sustainable cities and communities for the post-2010 period were examined. According to the comparison, Turkey performs better than the EU average in terms of the water usage index, soil permeability, and high public transportation usage, while it lags behind in housing deprivation, municipal waste recycling, and the use of water treatment systems. These results indicate that Turkey needs to undertake much more determined efforts to create sustainable cities. |
