Social Problem Solving Approach, Caregiving Role, Depression and Quality of Life in Stroke Caregivers

Özet
Aim The aim of this study is to investigate theeffect of social problem solving approach oncaregiving role, depression and quality of life incaregivers of stroke individuals.Methods Sixty-one stroke caregivers wereincluded in this study. Caregivers were divided intotwo groups as the study and control groups. Basicoccupational therapy strategies were explained forgroups in hospital environment. Moreover, socialproblem solving approach started to be carried outin the hospital environment until post-discharge 12thweek was used for the study group. The outcomeswere evaluated using Bakas Caregiving OutcomesScale, Beck Depression Inventory, NottinghamHealth Profile and Person Environment Fit Scale.Results When the groups were compared after thesocial problem solving approach, a statisticallysignificant difference was found in favor of thestudy group in terms of the burden of care, anddepression level and the emotional reactionsubdivision scores of the quality of life (p<0.05).Conclusion Social problem solving approachprovided positive outputs in increasing the qualityof life, decreasing depression level and caregivingload of stroke individuals’ caregivers
