Özet
Height suppression is an important factor for commercial vegetable seedling production. Paclobutrazol (PBZ) is the most effective reterdant, used for suppress the seedling height of vegetables. In this study, effects of different concentrations (0, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0, 10.0, 20.0 and 40,0 mg.l-1) and application methods (foliar spray and soil drenched) of PBZ (Cultar, 250 g/l PBZ, Syngenta Crop Protection) to control the seedling height and growth parameters (leaf number, fresh and dry weight, root fresh and dry weight and root length) of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. crispa, cv Maritima) were investigated.. Seedlings were harvested 28 days after sowing. PBZ was applied on seedlings reached the cotiledonary (8 days after sowing) and first true leafy (14 days after sowing) stages. Control plants were watered or sprayed with distilled water in all treatments.. As a result, the seedling height was significantly suppressed by PBZ. . Increasing paclobutrazol concentrations resulted in a linear decrease in seedling height. Soil drenching of PBZ was more effective than foliar spray. The highest seedling quality was obtained from soil drenched of PBZ with 5,0 mg.l-1 concentration
