| Özet |
| Pollens are very important plant generative organs in flowering plants, which play very important role for next generation to continue as well as their effects on the yield efficiency and quality. In crossbreeding works, live pollens with high germination power are greatly desired. In some cases, parents used in hybridization do not flower at the same time. For a successful hybridization, pollens with high germination ability from male plant are needed when the female organ is reseptive. If the duration of flowering periods of parents are very different, pollens from male plant could be kept alive under suitable storage conditions until the female plant used in crossbreeding flowered. Either in vivo inbreeding or in the breeding with stored pollens, unopened flowers of female plant should be used to get reliable progenies before introducing foreign pollens from external. In this study aiming to determine the best period for the highest pollen viability and germination capability, the pollens of one apple and two quince cultivars were taken at the early balloon stage and late balloon stage of flower as well as in the first, second and third day after the flower open. The viability of pollens taken above stages of flowers were determined with TTC test, and were germinated in the agar medium containing 10%, 15% and 20% sugar in order to obtain their germination capacity. In general, the viability of pollens in all cultivars was the highest at the late balloon stage and in the first day of flowering. On the other hand, the highest pollen germination rate were obtained from the pollens taken at early balloon stage and germinated on the medium containing 15% sugar in … |
